Here is the story:
On March 23,1994...the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus, and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten-story building intending to commit suicide. He left a note to the effect indicating his despondency. As he fell past the 9th floor, his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast passing through a window, which killed him instantly.

Neither the shooter nor the deceased was aware that a safety net had been installed just below the 8th floor level to protect some building workers and that Ronald Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide the way he had planned.

"Ordinarily," Dr Mills continued, "Someone who sets out to commit suicide and ultimately succeeds, even though the mechanism might not be what he intended, is still defined as committing suicide."

That Mr. Opus was shot on the way to certain death, but probably would not have been successful because of the safety net, caused the medical examiner to feel that he had a homicide on his hands.

The room on the 9th floor, where the shotgun blast emanated, was occupied by an elderly man and his wife.

They were arguing vigorously, and he was threatening her with a shotgun!
The man was so upset that when he pulled the trigger, he completely missed his wife, and the pellets went through the window, striking Mr. Opus.

When one intends to kill subject "A" but kills subject "B" in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject "B."

When confronted with the murder charge, the old man and his wife were both adamant, and both said that they thought the shotgun was not loaded.

The old man said it was a long-standing habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention to murder her. Therefore the killing of Mr. Opus appeared to be an accident; that is, assuming the gun had been accidentally loaded.

The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old couple's son loading the shotgun about six weeks prior to the fatal accident.

It transpired that the old lady had cut off her son's financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that his father would shoot his mother.

Since the loader of the gun was aware of this, he was guilty of the murder even though he didn't actually pull the trigger.

The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus.

Now comes the exquisite twist...

Further investigation revealed that the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus. He had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to engineer his mother's murder. This led him to jump off the ten-story building on March 23rd, only to be killed by a shotgun blast passing through the 9th story window. The son, Ronald Opus, had actually murdered himself.

Can this be suicide? What do you think?

In the news, the story is more often about what has gone wrong, what shouldn't be. Even with revolving characters, the stories are the same: the corruption, the violence, the lying and cheating and dying, and the series of bizarre events that make up the narrative of contemporary Philippines. And it is only right. After all, that is part of the Philippine story, and the journalist is in service of truth and a public that deserves to know.

But there are other stories, just as true, but to the journalist, not quite news. Storyline offers a more hopeful alternative.

i was reading idris' castles made of rad blog and he mentioned something about tupac getting plastic surgery which got me thinking about that time when everyone used to talk about their stupid 2pac being alive theories back in the day (i can't believe i actually typed that... i feel old as fuck now. 24 isn't that old, but old enough for there to be a "back in the day"... fuck it) anyway. there was a bunch of bullshit surrounding the 7 day theory and all that mess. then they got all crazy with it when R u still down remember me. i couldn't even keep track of that shit anymore. i made up my own little conspiracy. i used to tell people that i believed 2pac changed his image and became mystikal. it used to piss people off. i had it pretty air tight back then, like all details covered. about how he predicted the game and knew no limit was going to blow up. and he wanted to try some wild shit... like busta rhymes but west coast hahaha anyway, i only bring this up because 2pac IS still alive. we saw him in baguio, i would post the picture but he told us not to cuz you know... he's supposed to be dead. it was cool chilling with him. he lives up in segada where he grows weed. he dresses like a hippie too. and he has hair. he changed his THUG LIFE tattoo to HUG LIFE. and the bullet tattoo he had is now an acorn. he really loves nature. the only thing wack about hanging out with 2pac was... he was listening to T-PAIN and cat stevens mash up he made. i'm down with the cat.. but T-PAIN? i called him out on it and he said that he likes T-pain cuz he read in a t-pain interview that he was influenced by 2pac's california love and it introduced him to roger and zapp. then i told him about the time roger/zapp came to japan FOR FREE. i remember that concert. it was pretty dope. computer love used to be my jam hahaha (all of this was fake until the roger zapp coming to japan part, that really did happen) we used to always get free concerts there. montell jordan came to japan. i didn't go to that one though. i was in the philippines for vacation. i wasn't all that upset about missing that though. his one song was mad annoying.

i'm sorry that most of my movie recommendations are documentaries, they make me feel smarter. just kidding. this one is about weathermen, who at one point were on the fbi most wanted list, and their struggle to take down the man and how they fucked up. these dudes, along with malcolm x, the black panthers, and hunter s thompson were very influential to me, as in pare, as in!!!! and still are. also the simpsons because that was a revolutionary cartoon. more on that next time.
